As we hit fall this time of year we are bound to start getting rain and freezing temperatures.  You shouldn’t have to worry about over watering on the rainy days or becoming a liability for having a frozen sidewalk due to your sprinklers working during freezing temperatures.  Make sure to come in to Silver Creek Supply and grab a Hunter Rain/Freeze Sensor.  Its the second wireless product in Hunters Sensor line.  The Wireless Rain/Freeze-Click is great for those sections of your yard that might suffer from over watering or freezing.  Its a great and cost effective solution to protecting your yard during the unpredictable rainy and freezing seasons.

1) Turn off lawn controller and source water valve – break suction vacuum.

2)If feasible, disconnect water source and discharge piping.

3)On pump case, open both top and bottom drain valves to remove water from pump chambers.

4)Once water is drained from pump case, close drain valves.

5)Fill pump case with “RV” anti-freeze – just past the eye of the impeller.  The anti-freeze will keep cast iron pump cases from rusting and keep the impeller free for spring start-up.

Spring Start-up:

1) Drain and save the “RV” anti-freeze for the next year.

2)Proceed with normal Spring start-up procedures.

Notes

* Use of a non-toxic anti-freeze should cause no damage to landscaping.  Residual anti-freeze in the case will be diluted upon introduction of irrigation water.

*Use your own judgment on fragile plants and grasses.

*Pump case can be flushed with water to remove residual anti-freeze before start-up.
